How many of these jobs are remote?

162 of 637, which is 25%. Lower than most people assume for work that happens entirely on a screen.

25%

of live roles are remote. The other 75% want you in an office, and overwhelmingly in one of about four cities.

Red teaming is the remote discipline

The spread between disciplines is wider than the headline number suggests, and it points somewhere sensible: red teaming and safeguards work is adversarial testing that needs a model endpoint and a good adversary, not a room.

Remote pays a little less

Median published midpoint, remote: $289k across 76 bands. Tied to an office: $290k across 143. A gap of $1k, which is smaller than the gap between two Bay Area suburbs.

Worth reading carefully. This is not a remote penalty applied to the same job. It is that the roles offered remotely and the roles that require an office are not the same roles, and the frontier labs paying at the top of this board mostly want you in San Francisco.

Method. A role counts as remote when the employer's own posting says so, either through a remote flag in their applicant tracking system or by naming remote in the location. Hybrid arrangements are counted as not remote unless the posting says the role can be done remotely. Tracks need twenty live roles to appear. Pay figures are median midpoints of published annual USD bands.
